Combine Overview – What are Combines Used for?

Farming includes different types of step by step processes to grow crops. The final step I step is to take the ripen crops outof the farms and is known as harvesting. In farming, harvesting method can be different for vegetable, fruits and grain crops. Thus different types of equipment are used in the harvesting process. Out of the all grain harvesting is more difficult than the green plants harvesting as once mature the standing grain crops has the risk of losing it on the field if not harvested carefully on time. Therefore, its essential to harvest the grain crops with utmost care in time.

The Combine harvester machine was invented specifically keeping the risk in mind to harvest the grain crops. The combine harvester machine is also known as Combine. This modern harvester machine performs all the steps of harvesting from cutting to winnowing in a mechanized manner and collects the cleaned grain in the tank. It not only saves a lot of time in the crucial harvesting season but also makes sure that grains do not get wasted on the fields. Combines are used for harvesting the crops of grains like wheat, barley, soybean, rice, flax, pulses, corn etc.

Take a quick look at the complete process of harvestingdone inside a combine harvester:

  • First of all the header of a combine gathers thecrop while running through the field.
  • The reel along the cutter bar, then pushes thecrop towards the cutter.
  • The cutter snips the crops at its bottom.
  • Then the crops are moved towards the threshingdrum to beat and shake grains.
  • The grain falls into the storage or tractor trailerrunning alongside the combine or in collecting tank of combine falling throughsieves.
  • The useless chaff and stalk falls back into thefields, which later can be baled and use to feed cows and buffalos.
  • Finally, the collected grain inside a combinecan later be transferred up an elevator and send to unload into a tractortrailer.

Different types of combines work differently, thus afarmer should choose one very carefully. It is known as the most expensive agriculturalmachinery after a tractor, due to the complex and heavy engine of the machine. Therefore farmers should invest in it only after he is assured about its usability on his farm.
